NOTES

Dolamari Empire have ‘indentured servants’ whose service pays off serious crimes. What counts as a serious crime varies depending on the judge.

STARTING VILLAGE/TOWN—-

Bluestone – named after the deposits of that were found there. Prospectors still come trying to find Skyglass deposits in the nearby mountains.

[Aerite IS A MUCH WEAKER VERSION OF SKYGLASS – a properly treated piece works like a feather fall spell]

Character ideas

Goldfang – The local boss of the island’s biggest crime gang. Always has a couple of heavies following him around. Is genial, but shouldn’t be crossed. Operates out of the local bath house.

Sisik – Ratfolk brewer/alchemist. Anxious and overcompensates. Wants people to accept him.

Maglin – Local wizard and scholar. Fascinated by the ancient ruins that dot the islands.

Tenzo – Owns the local inn.

Captain Eddarn – Guard captain. Suspicious of anyone who seems too friendly with Goldfang or Maglin

The Blackhoof clan – a goblin family that lives in the hills and comes into town to trade. They are excellent trackers and know the mountains very well.

Important Buildings

- Bath house – owned by Goldfang. Other services are avialable.
- Gull and Flag – Local inn. Owner is from Ryushu (Efreet)
- The market square/shrine to Auratar
- Maglin’s shop/lab
- Guard station

MONASTERY NEARBY

ADVENTURE IDEAS

- Bandits attacking caravans moving up to Yarvin.
- A crashed airship has been taken by goblins (not the Blackhoofs) and needs to be recovered.
- Someone owes Goldfang money and he wants help tracking them down.
- Maglin wants someone to explore a temple.
- Sisik is looking for some ingredients for a potion.
- Tenzo’s sister is missing.

SETTING IDEA – Lower islands are warmer, higher islands are colder.

Starting Island

Two bigger towns on the island and several smaller villages.

(Think Caribbean – But without the slaves?)

AIRSTONE IS NOW CALLED SKYGLASS

SKYSTEEL IS NOW CALLED WINDSTEEL

GOBLINS ARE (OFTEN) LIKE MOUNTAIN FOLK. GOBLIN CULTURE HAS AN ICONOCLASTIC STREAK.

Larger of the two is a trading hub – on it’s own small island, connected by a great bridge.

(Reuse some of the older stuff)

The trading post is built out of the ruins of an ancient fortress.

Garrangate – built in the ruins of Garran Hala – all kinds of seedy goings on.

2nd Town is Yarvin – Which is inland a little way, and is surrounded by farmland. Also has nearby mine, which moves valuable ore north.

THERE ARE TEMPLES BUILT INTO THE MOUNTAINS.

NEEDLEMERE IS TO THE SOUTH – long rock pillars extending very high, violent winds running through them.

RYUSHU IS TO THE WEST

Original Idea for 3 Kingdoms

There are three kingdoms: one in the sky, one on the ground, and one in the water.

SWASHBUCKLING!

Airships

- How do they work?
– magic wood/stone/metal
– crystals?
– gas sacks
– propellers

(All of the above)

The Sky kingdom has plenty of resources that defy gravity.

- Liftwood (Easiest of the lifting materials to obtain, but also the weakest. Used mainly for large vessels)
- Skysteel (When properly smelted, this metal can also float. Provides more lift than liftwood, but more

expensive)
- Phlogiston (gas that can be extracted from liftwood sap. Works better, but more expensive)
- Airstone (crystals that provide lift. Very effective, but very rare.)

OTHER METHODS ARE AVAILABLE

Boats

Regular boats exist, as do submarines.

Deepleaf (Vine-like plant. Provides breathable air in enclosed spaces)

The sea kingdom is a sunken city (several, in fact). The university in the capital is considered the best in the land.

THE DEPTHS – There is an abyss at the edge of the Sea Realm. Those willing to explore the depths have found danger and riches in equal measure.

Kaishi

Lord Tenzo – big boss

“Goldfang” – Yakuza Boss

Rickins – Ratfolk alchemist/brewer

etting notes

There should be an emperor. [EMPEROR NINGYO]

Shinjin/Starting Realm – Saisho Province

- Lots of farms
- Freeport on the southern coast

CITY 1: Freeport – original landing site for Shinjin. Bustling cosmopolitan metropolis

CITY 2: City on northern coast. Lots of airships and ornithopters to the Sky Province – Heavily influenced by shinjin (lots of shinjin style buildings) – Kukoshima

City 3: City built in the ruins of a vast mausoleum. All of the tombs are empty – no one knows why – Gravehome

Cities 1 and 3 are Shinjin cities, with the appropriate names.

City 2 is Jinrui

Kaishi is also in this province.

Forest in the middle of the province – Rumors of ghosts – Akuzai Forest – often very foggy. (NINJAS IN THERE – Kemuri Clan [smoke clan])

NEEDS A CAPITAL – Custom built castle/city in the middle of the woods. Built into the side of a hill. The provincial governor can survey almost her entire territory.

Moriyaku – Capital City of the province.

Governor Misako Taka

PLOT!

The Sky Lord is planning to replace the governor of the province with a double from the Kemuri clan.

FREEPORT

Settled just over 100 years ago. The first settlers put up crude wooden buildings, but these soon developed into more sophisticated structures. Now, it is a bustling port, with all kinds of people moving through it.

- Local Yakuza style gangsters battle with standard thieves guild types.

Secret 1: The city sits on a huge vein of spirit crystal and all the life an energy going on has instilled the city with a strange sentience.

Secret 2: The fight between the thieves guilds is just for show (although the rank and file don’t know that). It’s part of a much longer game by a singular mastermind.

Secret 3: The mayor of the town wants to marry his daughter into Kizoku nobility and is willing to go to great lengths to achieve his goal. (She has her own ideas)

KUKOSHIMA

A link from Saisho Province to the Sky Realm. The new flying machines created by the Shinjin have changed the nature of the place, as personal air travel is now available.

Secret 1: The owner of the largest air shipping firm has a plot to sabotage the shinjin machines to put people off and send them back to his airships.

Secret 2: An arcanist is capturing people and trying to infuse their souls in specially treated spirit crystals. He’s charmed a number of guards into looking the other way.

Secret 3: There is an alchemist smuggling drugs all over Ryushu through the airways.

GRAVEHOME

A huge mausoleum, big enough to be a decent-sized town. All the crypts were empty when the settlers arrived. Many natives are reluctant to go anywhere near Gravehome.

There is a haunting melody that can only be heard at night during a full moon. The song seems to come from everywhere all at once.

The mausoleum is just one part of an entire necropolis, which extends a long way underground.

Secret 1: The graves are not human (or other native) graves. They belong to something much, much older.

Secret 2: Many of the townsfolk are secretly part of a death cult.

Secret 3: At the very heart of the necropolis, something terrible slumbers.

[IDEA FOR ENEMYWHATEVER IS SLEEPING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE NECROPOLIS IS AWAKE ENOUGH TO LEND ITS POWER TO DARK HEARTED SORCERORS]

KAISHI

Starting town.

- local bandits are attacking airships travelling through a nearby canyon. They have some fairly advanced equipment.

- There are tensions brewing between the local Yakuza and the guards. The captain suspects some of his men are on the take.

- People are getting increasingly angry at a Shinkyu preacher that has arrived in town.

Hebidoro AKA Hebidoro Road – long road that winds through the two largest islands

There should be robots – The Shinjin have created automata, known as … (tickers?) – Also have clocks and other mechanical devices.
